Winter preparation

Manty Stanley, managing director of TEAL, a manufacturer of portable hand-wash units, explains her four main reasons for portable sinks in the winter:

It is a requirement by law: The Health and Social Care Act of 2008 states that all medical organisation staff should have training on the importance of good hand hygiene routines.
Good hand hygiene is crucial in the prevention of HAIs: About 9% of inpatients have a healthcare acquired infection at any one time.
It is your responsibility to ensure everyone is protected: Providers can ensure hand hygiene by washing with soap and warm running water.
Effective hand decontamination can significantly reduce infection rates: A recent study found that hand washing reduced infection rates by 50% while hand gels only reduced the rate by 30%.
TEAL has been in partnership with healthcare organisations and NHS infection control departments for more than 15 years, providing units to meet specific requirements. The TEAL Stop n’Wash is designed to take users through the NHS seven-step programme to good hand hygiene.
