Digital HSE transformation with Kianda EHSwise

Posted on Monday 23 February 2026

H&MV ENGINEERING, a global leader in specialist high-voltage engineering and construction with a strong focus on data centres, utilities and renewables, partnered with Kianda EHSwise to digitise and scale HSE processes across the business.

This digital transformation has led to a single consistent global system for HSE data collection, ensuring better data integrity and accuracy while streamlining the data collection process.

Safety at scale across data centres, renewables and utilities

Operating in high-risk, compliance-heavy settings requires safety processes that are consistent, timely, and practical for site teams while giving leadership clear oversight of trends, actions, and performance.

As H&MV continued to grow and deliver large-scale projects, the HSE function needed a globally accessible secure platform for storing HSE data, ensuring that information is available for those who need it at all levels.

The challenge: Scaling EHS consistency across high-risk projects

With increasing activity across the sectors and jurisdictions in which we operate – where delivery schedules are tight and compliance expectations are high – the HSE team needed to ensure:

  • Consistent reporting across multiple sites and teams
  • Faster capture and escalation of incidents and observations
  • Better visibility of actions and close-out status
  • A user-friendly system approach that would be adopted in real site conditions by workers and contractors

Manual processes can introduce delays and inconsistency through handovers, duplicated inputs, and variations in how information is recorded. H&MV sought a digital approach that embedded seamlessly into everyday operations, reducing reliance on manual processes such as emails and Excel sheets.

David Thornton, group HSE director, H&MV Engineering says: “As our project portfolio expanded, we needed a standard way to capture HSE information. Kianda EHSwise has helped us bring structure and consistency, ensuring greater system reliability and data security.”

Flexibility to build processes around the work

H&MV envisioned a long-term HSE digitalisation programme, focusing on configuring HSE processes around operational workflows rather than adapting teams to a rigid system. This approach supports continuous improvement and eliminates the duplication of records.

The EHSwise platform’s flexibility also meant processes could be refined over time as requirements evolved, supporting continuous improvement rather than a one-time implementation.

The platform supports straightforward use in the field, helps maintain consistent data capture, and provides reporting visibility that supports day-to-day oversight. The ongoing collaboration also mattered, including support beyond the initial rollout.

David Thornton adds: “The platform has given us a structured way to manage HSE workflows while still allowing us to refine and improve processes over time. That flexibility has been important as our operational needs continue to evolve.”

The solution: Digitised EHS processes (and beyond)

Kianda and H&MV worked collaboratively to implement initial project roll-out and continually align the solution with changing requirements. With this approach, H&MV enabled:

  • Standardised and easy reporting of incidents, observations, actions, and more
  • Audit-ready insights through dashboards and reporting
  • Operational alignment reflecting project delivery realities
  • 40% increase in Near Miss reporting leading to near real-time reporting, incident causation analytics and lessons learned shared.

Over the past three years, H&MV has also digitised processes around Project Management, Commissioning, Quality Management, and Site Labour Scheduling, with a roadmap to further improve operational efficiency.

A partnership built for long-term improvement

The collaboration reflects a shared focus on continuous improvement, practical EHS digitalisation, and the realities of high-risk project environments. As a result, the solutions delivered have been embedded into day-to-day tasks in a way that is easy for site teams to use and consistent across projects.

Derya Sousa, CEO, Kianda EHSwise comments: “H&MV Engineering sets a high bar for safety leadership in complex environments. We’re proud to support their journey and demonstrate how leveraging digital solutions enhances safety processes.”

What this means for safe project delivery

Construction projects present specific HSE challenges that require innovative solutions. The fast-paced nature of these projects, coupled with the involvement of multiple contractors, creates a need for consistency and control over safety practices. H&MV Engineering has recognised these challenges and has taken proactive steps to address them through workflow-led digitalisation.

By implementing digital solutions, H&MV has achieved significant enhancements in HSE performance, including:

  • Enhanced reporting: Real-time data collection allows for swift incident response, ensuring safety remains a top priority.
  • Improved oversight: Comprehensive dashboards provide leadership with valuable insights into safety trends and proactive performance metrics.
  • Stronger safety ownership: Accessible data empowers all team members to take responsibility for safety practices, fostering a culture of accountability.
  • Operational efficiency: Integrating HSE processes into daily workflows reduces reliance on traditional methods, minimising errors and enhancing communication.

Through these initiatives, H&MV is not only addressing the unique HSE challenges associated with project delivery but also cultivating a culture of safety that aligns with its operational objectives.
