UKMHA and CFTS open central UK hub

Posted on Wednesday 3 December 2025

THE UK Material Handling Association (UKMHA) and CFTS, the industry standard body for Thorough Examinations have announced plans to open a new, purpose-built headquarters and training centre in Kibworth, Leicestershire.

The move marks a strategic step towards improving accessibility for members across the UK. Centrally located with strong road and rail links, the new facility will make it faster and easier for companies nationwide to access training, technical support, and events.

“Our members are spread from Cornwall to the Highlands, and as the industry’s voice, we need to be accessible to everyone” said Robert Fisher, chief executive of UKMHA. “By relocating to the Midlands, we’re putting ourselves quite literally at the centre of the industry — making it simpler for more members to reach us.”

A facility designed for members

The new facility has been custom designed to support the full range of UKMHA and CFTS activities, including:

  • Training suites and workshops for engineers, managers, and examiners
  • Meeting spaces for member engagement, technical committees, and working groups
  • Hands-on demonstration areas
  • Offices for UKMHA and CFTS staff

It will serve as a focal point for raising standards in materials handling through technical excellence, safety initiatives, and accredited training.

Strengthening support for members

“Our industry depends on consistency, safety, and shared standards,” added Robert Fisher. “This new facility gives us the space, resources, and accessibility to train more people, faster.  We’re doing what we can to help members maintain compliance wherever they operate.”

Central location, national reach

Kibworth’s location, close to the M1, M6, A14 and rail routes, places it within easy reach of most of the UK’s industrial and logistics heartlands. The majority of members will now have a shorter, more direct route to in-person training and meetings.

While the new hub will become the operational centre for both organisations, UKMHA and CFTS will continue to support members across all regions through local events, and on-site assessments.

A step forward for the industry

The move is part of UKMHA’s long-term strategy to strengthen its infrastructure, and ensure that both it and CFTS remain at the forefront of safety and training in materials handling.

Fitting out of the new facility will commence soon, with it expected to open in Spring 2026.
