Bespoke system

Providing staff with safe access to
recycling bins in an underground
loading bay, Safesite has installed a
bespoke safety system at the Darwin
Shopping Centre in Shrewsbury.

The recycling bins are located
below an access walkway so that staff
can drop recycled rubbish into the
corresponding bin from the walkway
above. A review of the process
identified the potential for staff to
overbalance and fall into the
recycling bin or area below.

Safesite’s System 2000 guardrail
has been modified to allow the
system to be bolted to the concrete
walkways to provide a fixed safety
system. The system’s bottom rail has
been placed at 600mm from the floor
to make it easier to dispose of plastic
bags and boxes.
