Clean Air? – Take Care! & the RPE Selector Tool

The BSIF has been working with Safety Groups UK and The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), along with other key industry stakeholders to develop a new online RPE Selector Tool that ultimately will help determine what kind of equipment you or your employees will need for protection against specific hazardous substances.

By answering key questions based on your specific input, the RPE Selector Tool recommends a choice of RPE. You then choose the type of RPE that is most suitable for your workers, taking account of their individual requirements.

The final recommendation is a printable record, including a Do’s and Don’ts section for the RPE you select. If you are using multiple substances you will need to run the tool separately for each substance and print out each record, then consult your RPE supplier about the results.

The newly developed RPE selector tool supports the BSIF’s Clean Air? Take Care! initiative, that the BSIF and the HSE developed, with the aim to reduce occupational respiratory disease in the workplace. The initiative centres around a range of national activities and educational seminars designed to raise awareness among RPE users, employers, fit testers and advisors on the correct selection, deployment, use, maintenance and storage of RPE.
