Judge steps down as HSE chief executive

Posted on Tuesday 28 August 2018

DR RICHARD Judge has stepped down as chief executive of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) having led the organisation since November 2014.

Dr Judge has been on 'special leave' since June and the HSE has appointed it's director for regulation David Snowball as acting chief executive. The HSE said that Dr Judge leaves his post after having overseen significant improvements to the way the Executive regulates and engages with industry and employer representatives, to deliver on its core purpose of preventing workplace ill health, injury and death.

In a statement, the HSE said Dr Judge's achievements have built on HSE’s strong regulatory framework and assurance to tackle workplace harm and he also strengthened HSE’s capability. HSE chair Martin Temple CBE said: “On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Richard for his important contribution to our organisation and to helping to protect workers and the environment, and wish him well in the future.”
