FIRE MARSHAL QUALIFICATIONS February 1st 2004 We are moving away from prescriptive fire legislation with more emphasis placed on the company to develop, implement and manage its own fire safety system. Fire safety legislation is to change in 2004, with more emphasis on the company, its fire risk assessment and the actions taken. At the same time, the litigation world, audit trails and burdens of proof are becoming more important. Many employers are now questioning the competency levels of their staff and the training they have received in fire safety and staff actions.
The West Midlands Fire Service has developed a Vocational Qualification for Fire Marshals. To achieve this award candidates would need to attend a one day Fire Marshal course. They would then be issued with workplace assignments that they have to complete.
In the event of any incident or issue that may be raised, the competency level of the companys fire marshals can be endorsed. More articles from West Midlands Fire Service: |
