Chubb Fire has launched purafoam, a new foam extinguisher that combines fire fighting capability with enhanced environmental performance. The general consensus has been that a products ability to put out a fire has been much more important than its after-effects on the environment. Following a global search Chubb has developed purafoam and has not had to compromise on biodegradeability or performance. Purafoam meets the stringent Dutch Stichting Milieukeur test for biodegradability this means that purafoam will break down much more easily in the environment when it is discharged than traditional AFFFs. From 2004, Chubb will be supplying Stichting Milieukeur-approved extinguishers. Customers will be given the choice between purafoam extinguishers or standard AFFF extinguishers.
