On-line training February 1st 2004 Cresent, developer of computer-based safety training for North Sea oil and gas personnel, and pollution-control specialist Briggs Environmental Services, have witnessed a last minute rush by oil companies to comply with government legislation on spill-response training.
More than 400 trainees now use their interactive e-learning package that can be accessed at any time on the internet.
In addition to receiving information on the various types of pollution, its effect on the environment, equipment available, methods for calculating the spill size and techniques for containment and clean-up, trainees are presented with a series of realistic scenarios involving small on-board pollution, and large scale oil slicks. They are assessed by their response to virtual spills.
