Waste collector
April 1st 2005

Biotechnology company, Genzyme takes as much care with its waste collection as it does with producing products and services for medical needs.

At its Haverhill, Suffolk, complex the company uses a battery powered 1.7t capacity, cage-bodied waste collection FB2 vehicle built by Bradshaw Electric Vehicles.

Ian Wade-Jones, materials manager, explains “Only battery power was safe enough to go into areas of the plant subject to fire hazard.

Operating in plant dedicated to active pharmaceutical ingredients manufacture, we needed a vehicle that was also reliable, compact and easy to keep clean.” The vehicle can carry loads to 1.7t and has an all-steel body. It is in constant use, operating at speeds to 17kph and coping with waste collection on a site of several acres that involves journeys on public roads.

The vehicle has full road legal specification and battery charging is via a plug into the mains onboard unit.
