Improved working conditions
August 1st 2004

Summer temperatures of between 34 and 37C in the Riverside Bakery, Middlesbrough have been reduced by up to 10C following the installation of the Breezair Evaporative Cooling Systems from Seeley International (Europe). Specified by Pidra Environments, the Breezair system has improved the working conditions for the 60 employees in the bakery.

Pidra Environments conducted a survey of the bakery to ascertain the best method of improving overall thermal comfort. Dismissing air conditioning as too expensive, Pidra suggested the installation of four Breezair Evaporative Cooling Units with an eight way horizontal discharge head located at some 4.5m above the floor, together with two roof mounted, vertical discharge powered extract ventilations, fitted with weathered shutters and ducted to grilles in the ceiling.

The system has reduced working temperatures and this has been responsible for an improvement in the overall quality and freshness of the finished product.
