Clean-up role
June 1st 2004

Grease extract ductwork at Shakespeares Globe Theatre in London has been given a thorough clean by Indepth Hygiene Services to protect it from the potential threat of fire.

A system of horizontal and vertical ductwork connects the canopies in the kitchen to two inline fans that extract hot, greasy air to a roof-level exhaust. Over time, grease is deposited on the inside of the ductwork and extract fans and, if it is not regularly removed, builds up and begins to represent a fire hazard as well as being a threat to food hygiene.

An inspection by Indepth Hygiene revealed a build-up of grease on the fans and inside the ductwork and a thorough clean was carried out.

As much of the ductwork was inaccessible, new access panels had to be installed to enable operatives to thoroughly clean inside the ducts.

The usual certificate of fire safety was provided, together with a post-clean report.
