Protects against burns
April 1st 2005

Many BP workers exposed to the risk of flash fires rely on garments made from DuPont Nomex brand fibre to protect them from burns.

The protection afforded is built into the molecular structure of the fibre, not from chemical treatment or add-ons. This means that the flame and heat resistance of the fibre is stable and permanent.

Nomex acts as a barrier from the outside, protecting the skin from heat and flames. Garments made of Nomex also help manage heat stress from the inside by wicking away moisture from the skin and providing breathability.

When exposed to a flash fire Nomex does not melt or drip and will self-extinguish when removed from the heat source.
