£5m contract
April 1st 2007

DML, owner and operator of Devonport Royal Dockyard, has awarded the Plymouth branch of Arco its biggest single-site contract yet. The £5m contract is to supply DML with all its PPE and janitorial supplies for the next five years.

Products that Arco will supply include protective clothing, gloves, safety footwear, hard hats, eye and face protection, disposable paper items, cleaning materials and equipment.

DML is ordering specific products for use in the nuclear reactor compartment of submarines, such as specialist clothing, breathing equipment and wipes. The company orders respiratory equipment for use when welding and grinding which prevents staff inhaling welding fumes, dust and particulates.

Jemma Hibbert, DML's PPE commodity buyer, says "We awarded the contract to Arco as the company can supply all the PPE we require. It is ideally set up to cope with a large contract such as this."
