AA stands out
December 1st 2004

When revamping its traditional waterproof jacket and waistcoat, the AA adopted an easy-clean, three-part Flexibell clothing system initially developed by Bell Apparel for the ambulance service.

3M Scotchlite 8925 reflective material is integral to the outer garment, providing visibility and increasing safety for patrols in diverse weather conditions.

3M conducted wash and performance tests on Scotchlite materials for up to 30 washes.

John Valentine, purchasing consultant to the AA, says “We actually went with the slightly more expensive backing option, choosing the fabric with the utmost retroreflective performance.” Scotchlite 8925 silver reflective material provides high brightness reflectivity and enhanced abrasion and chemical resistance. Made of 65% polyester and 35% cotton, it is durable, with proven performance for up to 75 washes at 60°C, 25 washes at 90°C or 50 dry cleaning cycles.

The AA’s new lightweight clothing system consists of thermal liner, breathable waterproof inner layer and showerproof, hi-vis outer layer that can be easily wiped clean.
