Relay boosts light curtains

A new module from Scientific technologies Inc enables a light curtain to be used in sophisticated ways to provide enhanced protection and efficiency.

The RM5 Resource Module is a microprocessorcontrolled, multi-function relay that lets up to three light curtains and muting sensors be connected.

Providing two normally open and one normally closed force-guided relay outputs, a variety of light curtain and muting sensor configurations are possible, allowing the creation of sophisticated mute sensor/light curtain sequences that are well suited to conveyor applications.

RM5 can be programmed to allow the light curtain itself to govern a machine's production cycle; the operator need not manually initiate a machine at the start of every cycle. Presence Sensing Device Initiation monitors the number of obstructions or breaks in the curtain. When the RM5 determines that it is safe to do so, it initiates a machine cycle automatically.
