Mixer downtime cut
April 1st 2004

Productivity at Cabot Plastics has increased since trapped-key interlocking safety systems fitted to its Banbury mixers were modified by Castell Safety International in partner-ship with Vital Link.

The systems had been in use for many years, but publication of BS EN120132 prompted the company to introduce an integrated system that enables maintenance to be carried out in a third of the time.

The system automatically monitors the condition of the mixers and interrupts machinery when cleaning or maintenance is needed. It uses fewer trapped key interlocks and only allows operators part-body access at one point in the process.

Mounted in Vital Links Safe Access Control Panel, Castells KSS20 solenoid-controlled interlock has a button that releases a trapped key. Removal of the key changes the machines electrical supply to a safe condition.
