Ensuring safe switch off
June 1st 2006

New products from Safetech are designed to protect personnel working near conveyor systems and other hazardous machinery.

The Centurion system, for example, offers a package of options that can be configured in various ways to suit the installation.

These include a monitoring and checking facility, the option of protecting several conveyors from a central control unit and the ability to work in locations with high levels of electrical noise and interference.

Users can create an Amber Zone and, if a worker enter this zone, an alarm will sound but machinery won't stop immediately.

However, if the worker passes into the Red Zone, the emergency stop will activate.

Sentinel, is an improved version of the company's personnel protection system for the recycling industry.

Anyone wearing a detector belt is automatically safeguarded as the conveyor and shredder or baling press will stop before the worker reaches the hazard zone.

Robert Smith, MD, says "To prevent accidents on conveyors and other hazardous machinery, we found a way to make a reliable system that could distinguish human beings from materials. If anyone comes into the danger zone, Safetech switches off the machinery. This is effective even if the worker is trapped, unconscious or buried in material."
