Cost effective obstruction detecti August 1st 2008 Hoerbiger-Origa's design
team has applied its
experience of producing
obstruction detection
solutions for the rail industry
to industrial and
manufacturing worlds.
"Our rail doors operate by
monitoring the back pressure
in the pneumatic cylinders
that drive the doors to and
fro," explains Hoerbiger-
Origa's Mark Prew. "In normal
operation the pressure
remains within specific
operating limits, but the back
pressure will rapidly drop
away if an obstruction is
detected. It's simple to
detect this change in
pressure and rapidly reverse
the flow of air to reopen the
doors minimising contact
time against the obstruction."
Mark explains: "We have
developed a system that is
suitable for a wide spectrum
of applications. It provides a
cost effective alternative to
more complex detection
systems while maintaining
many of their functions." |
