Sails through monitoring
October 1st 2006

Passengers, staff and local residents are benefiting from the Port of Dover's policy to reduce noise pollution.

To help with the task, the health, safety and environmental departments use a CEL-450 noise measurement meter from Casella CEL. The instrument has a single measurement range of 140dB to effectively remove range adjustment measurement errors.

Steve Pinfold, assistant port safety officer, says "The fact that the 450 is a handheld instrument enables us to take sound readings anywhere in the port." The CEL-450 produces a time history of noise levels at a selectable time interval down to 10milliseconds for speedy frequency analysis.
