TEMPERATURE CHECK LEADS TO SAFE ENTRY December 1st 2004 A piece of high technology equipment from Casella CEL enables maintenance personnel to safely enter potentially dangerous areas of Derwent Power Station in Derby sooner than was previously possible.
The Microtherm Wet Bulb Globe Temperature index heat stress monitor accurately measures temperatures inside the high pressure and low pressure boiler drums after they have been taken out of service.
In the past, to ensure the drums were safe, staff were not allowed to enter them for an extended period of time. The Microtherm instantly checks temperature levels to ascertain safe entry at the earliest possible time. This has reduced outage time and costs for the company.
The device has a sensor for placing in the drums that operates from -5 to 120°C. The instrument itself monitors temperatures to 60°C, % rH and gives dew point calculations. More articles from Casella Measurement Ltd: |
