FREE WALLCHART EXPLAINS IEC61508

August 2004 marked the deadline for the withdrawal of any national standard that conflicts with IEC61508, the international standard that focuses on safetyrelated systems that incorporate electrical, electronic and/or programmable electronic instruments and devices.

To help companies assess their process safety and design measures to meet the requirements of the new standard, ABB has devised a step-by-step wallchart that explains the key measures that need to be put in place and how to go about implementing them.

The chart uses diagrams to explain the key steps involved in the IEC 61508 Safety Lifecycle and how to carry out a Hazard and Risk Analysis to determine the appropriate Safety Integrity Levels for a plant.
