Planning rewarded
August 1st 2005

Technical Cranes was awarded the contract of removing the gantry maintenance platforms at St Pancras, as part of the ongoing refurbishment works for the Channel Tunnel rail link.

Working with Costain O’Rourke, National Heritage and the principle contractor Shepley Engineers a method statement and risk assessment document was formed.

Emphasis was put on engineering to reduce manual handling and risks of falls from height with the use of bespoke lifting trees and micro swing jibs and lightweight mobile hoists and transfer trolleys.

Training was important with on site inductions and toolbox talks. Also included was certified training such as passport to safety and safe slinging and lifting operations.

As a result of this well planned and executed method statement, Technical Cranes was the first contractor at St Pancras to gain a health and safety award.
