Site-wide detection February 1st 2006 Site-wide detection First Hydro has awarded Siemens Building Technologies an order worth in excess of £0.5m to install a site-wide fire detection and alarm system for the Dinorwig pumped-storage hydro-electricity facility in North Wales.
The new installation will completely replace the site's existing fire protection equipment and will incorporate standard fire detectors together with aspirating smoke detectors connected to 12 local panels around the site.
Panels will be networked, using fibre-optic cables for the longest links, including the 10km link to the facilities at the high level reservoir. User monitoring facilities will be provided in the form of three graphics panels at strategic locations.
In 2003 Siemens conducted a Halon replacement programme at the site, upgrading fire protection to eliminate the use of Halon extinguishers. More articles from Siemens Building Technologies Ltd: |
