Haven't a thing to wear? December 1st 2005 Britain is expected to have one of the coldest winters on record this year ...... are you going to be properly clothed at work?
One of the companies exhibiting next year at the Clothing @ Work exhibition to be held at GMEX, Manchester, on the 4th and 5th April 2006, is Praybourne Xcelcius - manufacturer and distributor of a range of thermal underwear, ideal to wear under your work clothes or uniform. "Employers are all too aware of the importance of providing the right outerwear, explains Joan Willetts, sales manager for the Xcelcius range, "but underwear is often not even considered. We exhibit at the Clothing at Work Exhibition to continue to educate our audiences that to stay properly warm you need effective thermal underwear too!"
The new show, organised by Brintex, aims to combine corporate clothing with workwear and even protective wear as Janie Fox, the show's director, explains. "The UK clothing industry is changing.
Before, there was a clear distinction between corporate wear and workwear. Nowadays, companies clothe the whole workforce and corporate clothing ranges from chic suits to coveralls. Innovation in fabric technologies means that specialist fabrics are now used throughout the workwear clothing business, whether in thermal underwear, breathable shirts, easy care jackets or protective barrier solutions. By uniting designers, manufacturers, suppliers and buyers from the entire clothing industry at the same exhibition, we aim to satisfy the needs of exhibitors and visitors who have a responsibility for properly clothing people at work."
Another exhibitor at the show next year will be 3M, Personal Safety. "The safety of people at work is paramount and we are finding that more and more employers supply their staff with outer garments that carry hi-vis tapes so that they can be easily seen during the day but more especially at night or in poor weather", explains Caroline Walton, 3M Scotchlite product manager.
As a manufacturer of glass-bead and microprismatic reflective materials, 3M can offer unbiased advice on the most suitable product depending on the wearer's level of risk. "There is a lot of confusion in the marketplace today," continued Caroline, "because of the import of non-compliant materials to reduce costs or the exchange of misinformation and we intend to set the record straight!"
Workshops
With a strong focus on education and information the Clothing at Work show hosts a series of workshops and demonstrations over the two days to make your visit even more worthwhile. These include:
Buying and Selling with a Conscience - considering ethical and environmental issues when buying workwear.
First Time Buyer Workshop - aimed at the person buying workwear clothing for the first time, optimising the tender process and avoiding the pitfalls.
Sourcing Focus - looking at the challenges and opportunities of sourcing garments or materials.
Market Trends - what's been happening in the UK clothing industry in the last two years.
Employers Responsibility / Liability re PPE - ensuring the garments you buy do actually conform and the effect laundering can have on performance.
Fashion Shows and 'What Not to Wear'
To bring glamour and sophistication to the show Fashion Shows, running 3 times each day, include stylish routines from some of the exhibitors and show you just how attractive work clothing can look! The "What not to wear to work" feature looks at some of the corporate and work wear gaffes that have happened and ensures these gaffes don't happen again and once you've exhausted yourself, you can take the weight off your feet with a glass of juice at The McOnie Agency Juice Bar.
Janie Fox, event director, says the Clothing at Work show only happens once every two years and attracts a very broad range of exhibitors from corporate clothing designers and manufacturers, workwear and protective wear manufacturers, badge makers and suppliers, garment cleaning companies, fabric designers and footwear suppliers plus many more. If you need to find out anything about clothing to wear to work then this is the show for you.
