Accidents more likely for 'bumpers and scrapers'
February 1st 2006

Fleet drivers who are involved in a series of minor bumps and scrapes on the road are more likely to be heading towards a serious accident.

Sales and marketing director at cfc solutions, supplier of fleet, contract hire and workshop management solutions, Andy Leech, said: "A key factor in a driver having accidents could be that they lack spatial awareness, which could easily lead to a much more serious type of accident in the future."

Leech explained that this kind of driver should probably be targeted for driver training that would help them to identify risks on the road and modify their driving behaviour.

He explained: "Fleets that are collecting data for duty of care purposes are learning to analyse it comprehensively, often with fleet software. One of the effects of the recent accent on corporate liability is that fleets are becoming much better at looking at the accidents on their fleet.

Leech added that the new trend of accident cost analysis would ultimately lead to fleet accident rates falling and all fleet accident related costs being reduced.
