LIGHTING THE WAY TO GREATER SAFETY
June 1st 2005

Labcraft believes many commercial vehicles have inadequate lighting that can contribute to the risk of accidents, such as slips, trips or falls.

For guidance, the HSE recommends a minimum working light level of 20 lux, although the minimum for factory and loading bays is 100 lux. Labcraft says that, shockingly, light levels in most truck bodies are below 5 lux.

The company’s lighting measurement service provides operators with a confidential report on any shortfall against the HSE recommendations.

Most vehicles are lit internally with incandescent bulbs. Once correctly designed fluorescents have been installed, light levels are often increased by five to six times. Additional benefits include less glare, lower power use and reduced maintenance.

Labcraft has a wide range of lighting products suitable for use in vehicles.
