Safe working practice
February 1st 2007

British Industrial truck Association has introduced a new specification for safe working practice for on-site maintenance and repair of industrial trucks.

PAS 90 is applicable to service engineers who carry out maintenance, repair and/or thorough examination tasks on site.

It also provides guidance on the responsibilities of employers and trainers of service engineers to enable them to work safely on site.

BITA says it hopes PAS 90 will replace the proliferation of schemes currently in existence, which cause users confusion. Engineers will be trained to the PAS standard and their employers will set up an independent verification process to ensure training requirements specified are met.

PAS 90 covers areas such as environment (for example waste disposal, and handling and storage of fluids), engineers' vehicles, equipment used on site, health and safety, working environment, and general good practice.

The launch of the training modules will take place at IMHX 2007.
