Speed and accuracy
February 1st 2006 Six Steelmaster cranes from Demag Cranes & Components have helped improve lead times at ASD metal services' Leeds site.
Raw steel bars of up to 22m in length are loaded onto the process line by crane and manoeuvred by the system at each stage of the process before being offloaded for despatch.
Demag installed six 30m span 7.5t + 7.5t twin crab cranes, each with four fully interchangeable section handling magnets. All cranes have an anti-pendular reeving system to eliminate load sway and promote positioning accuracy.
Travel speed is to 125m/min; hoisting speed to 20m/min. Crane movement is remotely controlled, eliminating the risk of accident or injury.
