Self-erecting tower crane December 1st 2007 An AT7 mobile, self-erecting
tower crane has been used
to lift an SGB scaffold beam
bridge structure at Gatwick's
South Terminal. The bridge
weighs 6t and SGB believes
the AT7 to be the only crane
in the UK which can lift
such a structure due to
restrictions on conventional
mobile crane operations so
close to the flight path.
The crane can reach
heights in excess of 50m
and lift weights of 5500kg
at a radius of 42m. However,
the maximum crane working
height could not exceed
36m due to aircraft flight
path restrictions, but still
needed to lift 6000kg at a
radius of 32m over a 25m
tall building.
The SGB bridge, built from
Coverspan alloy beams, was
designed to create a box
beam that would allow
installation and movement
of structural steel and carry
a 2t air handling unit. It is
21 by 4.2m and is supported
by the South Terminal roof
at one end and by a freestanding
scaffold support
tower at the other. More articles from SGB Group: |
