Respirator role
June 1st 2005

At the Lancashire site of Wolstenholme International, employees produce and pack speciality metallic inks, pigments, flakes and powders. They rely on 3M for respiratory protection.

John Maynard, health and safety manager, explains “Currently, we use the 3M 8822 cup-shaped, valved disposable respirator and the 3M 9320 foldable, un-valved disposable respirator to protect workers from fine dusts and powders. The valve on the 8822 reduces heat and moisture inside the mask, making it easy to breathe through. The 9320 allows employees to step in and out of a hazardous area, fold-up their mask and put it in their pocket for re-use.” Employees in solvents areas use the maintenancefree gas, vapour & particulate respirator 3M 4251. This is said to give excellent protection against the effects of fine dusts, oil and water-based mists, organic gases and vapours. It has good warning properties and boiling points above 65°C.

An adjustable head harness cradle aids fitting, while the textured face seal prevents slippage and improves comfort and fit.
