Meets new blasting standards
June 1st 2008

A new protocol for Network Rail contractors requires dust generated during abrasive blasting work to be completely contained on site.

Sites have to be fully enclosed and sealed, and dust collected for disposal.

Shutdown Maintenance Services (SMS) is now working on its first project under the new protocol – a contract to re-paint an iron bridge over the River Medway, involving about 13,000mÇ of metal. The blasting is being performed with six Hodge Clemco blast machines and two dust collectors with special highefficiency filters Because of the size of the site, Hodge Clemco has installed remote emergency stops on the blasting equipment in order to maximise operator safety.
