De-dusting solution
October 1st 2007

Accidental exposure to chemicals in the working environment can have serious consequences. Workers' health can be ruined and the legal and financial outcomes can destroy businesses. A new software package from Quality Systems International is designed to take all the hard work out of generating Risk Assessment documentation in any organisation where hazardous chemicals are handled. RisQ uses a simple Wizard-based approach to combine materials data and process information to create a detailed risk assessment based on Royal Society of Chemistry guidelines.De-dusting solution Safety, noise reduction and reduced costs are all factors that led to Trelleborg sealing Solutions installing blowerpowered JetBlack personnel de-dusting units from Air Control Industries at its Rotherham site.

The company manufactures Orkot tube and laminate bearings from polyester resin and fabric composites for the marine industry. Although most dust generated in the process is eliminated from the working environment by efficient extraction systems, some still gets onto employees.

Trelleborg noticed some employees were using compressed airlines to remove dust and bits, even though they had been warned that it is a dangerous practice. The company took a JetBlack unit on a free trial.

It proved so effective that four units were subsequently purchased and placed in strategic locations where machine operators use them to remove dust and fragments from clothes, bodies and hair.
