Dust extraction unit
December 1st 2007

A W80 Nonflam dust extraction unit and downdraught bench from Carter Environmental have been installed at Leeds College of Building.

The booth installation handles metal dust from angle grinding operations by students training in welding techniques for heating and ventilating systems.

Eric Cannell, health, safety and environment manager at the college, says "We were attracted by the wet extraction system the Nonflam offers. There are no complicated filters, it is compact, efficient and works very well." Nonflam collectors use a water-filled tank through which dust and residues are drawn by an impellor fan.

They are available with a range of fans precisely rated for individual applications – up to 22kW in cases where it is necessary to remove sticky or oily dust from the metal being treated.

Particles drawn into the Nonflam sink to the base of the collection tank, where they can be removed by raking into a container.

Automatic sludge removal systems are also available.
