Less risk from textured coatings

Research carried out by the Health and Safety Laboratory on asbestos confirms that risks from asbestoscontaining textured coatings are much lower than previously thought, reports the HSE.

Kevin Walkin, head of asbestos policy, says the risk is comparable to the risks from work with asbestos cement, which does not require a licence.

However, he stresses the need for caution. "We're not saying this work is no-risk - it still needs to be carried out by trained workers using appropriate controls."
