46 HANDLING & STORING See more like this online at: www.hsmsearch.com LIMITING SPEED Forklift trucks travelling at speed in congested areas put people, products and infrastructure at risk and are a major contributor to transport related incidents at work. The Davis Derby team at TruckLOG has developed speed zoning technology which is now available as a standard option on the existing TruckLOG TK5 System. It can also be purchased as a standalone product. The TruckLOG TK5 Speed Zoning System uses a series of strategically located routers around the site to create a speed controlled zone. When vehicles enter these zones the system triggers a limited vehicle travel speed. The system can also be used to restrict the trucks’ reach height. TruckLOG forklift truck access control and fleet management system improves the efficienct management of forklift vehicle fleets while minimising damage to vehicles, infrastructure and finished goods. The agreement, effective from April 1, 2014, adds explosion proof manual chain hoists up to 10t capacity and air hoists up to 25t capacity to LTM’s product offering. The company is also able to offer ultra low headroom chain hoists. Operations director David King says: “The products complement our existing range and create new opportunities for our clients.” Tel: 0151 649 0467 Toyota Material Handling UK has produced a video, educating viewers on selecting the right transmission for their engine-powered forklifts. Earlier this year Toyota launched hydrostatic transmission (HST) on the Toyota Tonero engine-powered forklift range up to 3.5 tonne. The launch enabled Toyota to offer what it says is the safest truck on the market with a choice of either torque converter or hydrostatic transmission at no extra cost. To help make companies aware of the impact the choice of transmission can have on the productivity of an operation, the new video includes the benefits of each transmission and a technical explanation of how they work. The special feature of this film is the double edge (for example a 15 micron stretch film has a thickness of 30 micron at the edges). The double edge surrounds the pallet like a net and is said to make it very stable, while impressive material savings can be realised. According to Duo Plast, a reduction of material consumption of more than 30 - 35% is not uncommon when using the film. As a result, lower packaging costs and lower disposal costs are possible, as well as the conservation of resources and protection of the environment. Tel: +49-6641 6550-0 operations and other demanding materials handling applications. The range is suited to situations where longer truck run times are needed to minimise the use of spare batteries. Models rated from 276 to 1032 Ah are available in standard sizes for small pallet trucks up to large reach and counterbalance trucks.  The positive electrodes in the battery’s cells incorporate a square Cladex tube technology said to result in around 18% more surface area than the round tubes or flat plates used in conventional lead-acid batteries. This maximises the contact area between the electrodes’ active material and the electrolyte which enables higher sustained voltages throughout the discharge cycle.  Tel: 0161 7273800 TRANSMISSIONS GUIDE Hoists incorporating the latest generation of super silent hydraulics have been added to the J D Neuhaus range of lifting and handling equipment. In both their Profi and EH monorail hoist ranges, units providing 75 and 100 tonne lift capacities have been added. Where heavy loads are lifted and transported in highly restricted spaces with LIGHTENING LOADS Movetech UK has provided Hatton Systems with new equipment that allows employees to move 2.5 tonnes of machinery around with just one hand. Hatton Systems supplies equipment for testing new vehicles, such as rolling roads and cooling fans. The fans, which are used to simulate air flow, weigh up to 2.5 tonnes each. Movetech provided Hovair air skates so, instead of two employees heaving equipment into place, one person can glide and lock the fan into position. Hovair lightweight air skates use compressed air to minimise friction and have omnidirectional capabilities, so a load can be moved in any direction without the need for complex turning manoeuvres. A set of four air skates can carry anything up to 240 tonnes. Tel: 01204 537681 only minimum headroom, then a JDN ultra-low monorail hydraulic hoist range has been introduced, initially available with 50 and 100 tonne lift capacities and designated as JDN UH 50-H and JDN UH 100-H. All the new lifting products can be deployed as viable alternatives to air driven equipment in locations where hydraulic lines, control hydraulic systems or hydraulic aggregates form part of an existing power set-up available at a proposed location site.
